Here are the complete renderings of the newly announced 900 Monroe development. East facing facade above. North facing facade below:
The architect who designed this is Minno & Wasko Architects & Planners, based in Lambertsville, NJ. Click here to visit the 900 Monroe page on their website. Apprently this design is considered to be 'sustainable design' with the hopes of an eventual LEED certification for green building. I wonder what the "community playground" will entail? Are we going to get another "shoprite park"? Going over the renderings it looks like the northern edge of this buts up to the existing warehouse? So they are going to end up with one superblock when that warehouse gets demolished. It also looks like the 4 level parking will be the townhouse portion of the building as they can't go below ground because of the flooding.
Id rather live next to a new building than an empty lot, I just would have liked them to design it to be in scale with the rest of the area. Hopefully the rest of the project which was declared in need of improvement will not be as tall and actually have some public space. I don't really understand all of the roof top garden mumbo jumbo. How does that help the community?
The community garden will be situated between the light rail and 900 Monroe, and will be part of the future 'western edge greenway' which eventually will stretch north all the way up and then east to the water.
